As the details continue to come in about the all-new 2016 Chevrolet Camaro, we here at Felix Sabates Chevrolet Cadillac are getting more and more eager. The most recent tantalizing tidbit is one that should have Camaro fans everywhere excited. General Motors has recently announced that the upcoming 6th generation Camaro will be following in the impressive footsteps of the super-performing Camaro ZL1 in sporting a Drive Mode Selector, among other little goodies.

The Drive Mode Selector, which has previously been available only on the legendary ZL1, is designed to optimize Camaro’s handling on a variety of road surfaces and conditions. This performance-enhancing feature will now grace the powertrain of mortal Camaro models, and is sure to provide an extra level of control on the all-new platform.

Enhanced Performance and Greater Flexibility

As for the enhanced performance experienced by driver selectable modes, one has only to point toward the ZL1’s exceptional handling and road presence. As we know, vehicle responsiveness is a function of road conditions as much as engineering. With the ability to toggle between “Snow/Ice” mode, “Tour” mode and “Sport” mode, Camaro drivers now get to optimize their car’s performance to match the road conditions they find themselves in.

According to Camaro’s lead development engineer Aaron Link, “We wanted to build on the flexibility of the current Camaro ZL1, which is great for grand touring, commuting, the drag strip and track days. The new Camaro will be even more adaptable, with up to eight vehicle attributes adjusted to fit a driver’s preference.”

Drive Mode Selector Details

By selecting between the different available drive modes, the new Camaro is able to adjust steering and stability control, and to calibrate throttle progression for optimized performance. If you opt for the new Camaro SS model, a “Track” mode will also be one of the Drive Mode Selector options. All told, these 4 driver-selectable modes provide electronically controlled calibration of up to 8 performance variables on the new 2016 Camaro.

More Enhancements to New Camaro Models

In addition to the newly introduced Drive Mode Selector, 2016 Camaro SS models will also receive GM’s Magnetic Ride Control suspension technology. This active damping suspension system will offer drivers a choice between “Tour,” “Sport,” and “Track” suspension settings, and will actively adjust the balance of ride and handling. By sampling inputs at up to 1,000 times a second, this new system automatically adjusts for driver input and road conditions, creating optimal performance for any situation.

Last but not least, the new Camaro for 2016 will also be equipped with a dual-mode, electronically-controlled exhaust valve system. This system uses a set of valves that are able to bypass the mufflers with the push of a “Track Mode” button, temporarily providing both a performance boost and an aggressive roar to accompany your acceleration. Or, if you hap[pen to be cruising the neighborhood, a “Stealth” mode is also available.
